Lewisham Speaking Up People's Parliament

By Lloyd Page and Steve Hardy

We were excited to be part of the vote for People's Parliament Representatives. Lloyd was the chair person for the day. He opened by saying that we are all here to electric the new representatives for the next five years. First speaker was Vicky Foxcroft MP for Lewisham North. Lloyd had the pleasure to introduce Vicky to the stage and gave us a very big welcome to the parliament. She said something very funny 'I wish I knew as many famous people as Lloyd'.

Next up was Celilia Knapp from City Bridge Foundation. She told us about all the bridges along the River Thames. She asked what bridge is always forgotten? The answer was Southwark Bridge! She dedicated a lovely poem to Southwark Bridge!

Then it was Andrew Lee from People First. He was here to talk about the new London Campaign Network. Lloyd used to work with Andrew at People First in the 1990's. It was a great interesting speech although quite political.

We then split up into three groups. We were in the red room. We got asked several questions like what is good about Lewisham Speaking Up, how it can improve and what you would like to change with the new government.

After lunch it was the open mic for every new candidate. They were all fantastic! Then it was time to vote. There were about 16 candidates but only 6 places. We would to say congratulations to all those who got through and well done for trying for the rest. Then it was time for a very well deserved lunch. What a fantastic day it was!
